Ten years later he became a Foster Parent for his then 5-year-old grandson. During his training as a Foster Parent, Joe made a choice to be a support and advocate for change and elected to go back to school. He attended a program at Boise State University where he completed a Master of Health Science, focusing on Addiction studies and Counseling and eventually got his CADC, (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor).
Joe completed an internship at the VA Residential Substance Abuse Treatment center( RSAT) in Boise, Idaho.
